Edinburgh to Gretna Coach Run 2014
Published On: 19 August 2014
This special coach run between Edinburgh and Gretna was covered in 'stages' over three days. This picture shows the section was between Dinwoodie and the Queens Hotel Lockerbie. In this picture the guard is standing with the posthorn at the back with the top hat.
In the Museum we have the Bugle which was used by the guard on the Moffat coach by the postmen who were lost in the snowstorm of 1831.
The re-enactment coach travelling south stopped to pay tribute to the men who died intent on 'getting the mail through' but who lost their lives in the atempt.
